Understanding Pain In Your Rectum

What is Rectal Pain?

Rectal pain can present as spontaneous episodic pains in the rectum that are secondary to spasms in the pelvic floor musculature. This pain can last up to 20 minutes at a time, and as it progresses it can last longer. Patients often say that it’s the sensation of a golf ball in their rectum, or that they have a dull ache in their rectum. Oftentimes, patients may also experience a burning, itchy sensation in their rectum.
