Is There a Connection Between Endometriosis and Ehlers Danlos Syndrome?

With expert input from PRM’s CMO and Co-Founder, Dr. Allyson Shrikhande

Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) is a group of connective tissue disorders that affect the body’s collagen, leading to symptoms like joint hypermobility, skin that bruises easily, and chronic pain. Many individuals with EDS also experience pelvic pain and dysfunction, which can overlap with conditions like endometriosis.

Are endometriosis and Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome related?

At PRM, we frequently see a clinical connection between endometriosis and EDS, particularly in patients with hypermobility. A 2022 study suggested that 6 to 22 percent of patients with EDS also have endometriosis, further supporting this link.

While research is still inconclusive, our experience aligns with these findings—many patients with EDS also present with pelvic floor dysfunction, fibroids, or endometriosis.

Does PRM address Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome?

Because both endometriosis and Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome can contribute to chronic pain and inflammation, a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach is essential for managing symptoms effectively. PRM’s specialized treatments help patients address pelvic pain, dysfunction, and related conditions, ensuring they receive personalized care for their unique needs.

If you suspect a connection between your symptoms, seeking evaluation from a specialist can be an important step toward relief.
