Showing Support for Those with Endometriosis

With expert input from Jessica Ray, Endometriosis and Pelvic Pain at PRM in Englewood and Florham Park, New Jersey

March is Endometriosis Awareness Month, a time to shed light on this often-misunderstood condition and discuss ways to support those living with it. If you have a friend, partner, or family member with endometriosis, your support can make a meaningful difference in their daily life. Here are some key ways you can help:

Help with Daily Tasks

Endometriosis can cause chronic pain and fatigue, making everyday tasks feel overwhelming. Offering to help with errands, household chores, or meal prep can take some of the burdens off their shoulders. Something as simple as doing the laundry, grocery shopping, or preparing a meal can provide them with much-needed relief.

Attend Their Medical Appointments

Endometriosis often requires multiple doctor visits, which can be stressful and exhausting. Accompanying your loved one to their appointments can offer emotional support and practical assistance.

You can take notes, ask questions on their behalf, and help them feel heard, ensuring they get the best care possible.

Be Flexible and Patient

Endometriosis symptoms can be unpredictable—one day, they may feel fine, and the next, they could be in severe pain. This unpredictability means that plans may need to change last minute. Being patient and understanding when this happens shows your loved one that you respect their needs and well-being.

Educate Yourself

One of the most powerful ways to support someone with endometriosis is to educate yourself about the condition. Learning about its symptoms, treatments, and effects on daily life helps you better understand what your loved one is going through. It also demonstrates that you genuinely care and want to be an informed source of support.

Offer Emotional Support

Sometimes, the best thing you can do is simply be there. Living with a chronic illness can be isolating, and knowing they have someone to listen and support them can be incredibly comforting.

Encourage open conversations, validate their feelings, and remind them that they are not alone.

Your Support Matters

Supporting a loved one with endometriosis doesn’t mean having all the answers—it’s about showing up, listening, and offering kindness when they need it most. Small acts of support can go a long

way in helping them navigate the challenges of this condition.

Let’s use this Endometriosis Awareness Month to spread understanding and compassion for those living with endo.
